Mission MPG Myth Busting

“The small percentage of drivers that participate in MISSION MPG helped us save an estimated $3.5 Million in fuel. How much of that went back to the drivers? In bonuses and prizes we give back almost three-quarters of a million dollars every year.”

Mission MPG Myth Busting

Back in 2011, Shane Boyd, Mike Martin, and several other drivers & team members began an intense amount of research and testing to find ways of improving our MPG as a company. Countless hours spent using all kinds of different configurations plus input from drivers with outstanding fuel performance led us to develop a list of the best practices to reduce our expense.

Lets be real, some things we already knew. Like, engine idle time is the biggest MPG killer of all. This is precicely the reason most equipment manufacturers offer automatic engine idle shutdown parameters and auxillary climate control features. You’ll burn approximately a gallon of fuel per hour sitting still. Talk about burning a hole in your wallet!

As we work to provide the best and newest equipment in the industry for our drivers and our customers, understandably, operating costs increase. MISSION MPG helps us offset some of those associated expenses. But what are we really talking about here? Let’s put this into perspective.
Last year we spent $52,000,000.00 in fuel. That’s $52 MILLION. The small percentage of drivers that participate in MISSION MPG helped us save an estimated $3.5 Million in fuel. How much of that went back to the drivers? In bonuses and prizes we give back almost three-quarters of a million dollars every year. The more people participate, the more that number increases.

Let’s do some MYTHBUSTING

  • Myth 1: “The same guy wins it every year.”
    • Busted! While top drivers often qualify and earn bonuses year after year, a different driver has won the Harley every year.

  • Myth 2: “Its Rigged.”
    • Busted! The drivers that work their tails off competing in this program know full well what it takes to make it in this competition.

  • Myth 3: “Only dedicated drivers can win”
    • Busted! Every year we have drivers representing all aspects of the company: Trainers, OTR, Teams, Dedicated, Expedited, etc.

  • Myth 4: “Nobody under 40 wins.”
    • Busted! Willie Reynolds, Otto Silies, Patrick Jackson, Davey Tedtaotao, and Jonathan Bulice were all finalists under 40 years of age! The fact that all grand prize winners were over 40 is pure mathematical chance.

  • Myth 5: “First year drivers can’t win.”
    • Busted! First year drivers CAN and DO make it to the finals.

To quote one of the lottery ads, “You can’t win if you don’t play.”
So the bottom line is this: If you want it bad enough, you can win. It’s not difficult, but it does take commitment. No one else can do it for you; if they could, then it would be rigged.
